the rise of America, WW1, WW2, secular stagnation, the Middle East, Ukraine, how Xi and Putin think, and basically anything else that's happened since 1860.
Fascinating analysis. Blind spot, though. at 00:39:32 Patel asks about the causes of "pathologies" in the Middle East. The expert seems confused. Maybe it's Islam? The conflict with Israel is a factor? Is it not relevant that the victors of world war redrew their map, inserted the Israeli government, installed the Sha of Iran and did everything they could to insert there will to over that part of the world in order to secure the Prize, oil? We can argue about the wisdom/justice/necessities around these moves but for an expert to stand back and scratch his head over problems in the ME without acknowledging that its history was manipulated by the major world powers of the west is...blind? Exceedingly ignorant? Disingenuous? I don't know, but we really should be able to tell apart the views of polemicists for the power dynamics of the status quo and dispassionate experts.
I read "The Prize" shortly after the soft cover came out. Enlightening & depressing. Along with "The Devil's Chessboard", explains a lot of actions and identifies actors involved with events which the MSM presented us reports of as seemingly agentless acts of god.

One of the best interviews I've watched in a long time. Dr. Yergin is a bottomless wealth of knowledge on the energy business.
Great conversation. Just started the "New Map" and will work backwards to the Prize. Thanks for sharing
